Instructions for Buyers of PVC Slats for Self-Installation
Ordering Slats
Orders are accepted by phone or in writing via email. In case of a verbal order, the responsibility for any incorrectly provided measurements lies entirely with the customer. When ordering the top rail profile of the backrest, we recommend adding an additional 5 cm to the length so that when installing the profile at the corners (where the profile is cut at an angle), there is no shortage of material. For end caps, note that a semicircular end cap increases the height by approximately 2.5 cm, and a flat end cap by 0.5 cm.
Based on a conversation or any submitted pictures, we can only provide recommendations and advice, but the final decision regarding the number of pieces and lengths of slats lies entirely with the customer. Therefore, Profilplast d.o.o. does not assume responsibility for incorrectly ordered quantities or lengths of profiles.
Storage of PVC Slats Before Installation
Store PVC slats in the shade and do not expose them to sunlight while they are still wrapped in packaging foil prior to installation.
Screwing
Use chipboard screws (wood screws) – Ø 5 mm of the appropriate length. The screw should be screwed 2 cm into the slat. We also offer screws in our product range. Screw in from the inside of the balcony through the structure into our slat by only 2 cm, so that the screw is not visible on the front side.
Pre-drill holes in the structure beforehand. It is also possible to use our 5 × 2.5 cm profile onto which you can screw the slats; in this case, drilling is easier. We also offer a covering profile for the screws.
When screwing slats longer than 2 m (especially those in dark colours), please consult with us. We advise making slightly larger holes in the structure so that the profiles can expand.
In the backrest profile, screws are screwed in from below, and into the slat the screw should be only 1.5 cm deep.
Spacing Between Posts
Horizontal installation of white and grey slats: The spacing between posts should be a maximum of 1.5 m. For slats in dark colours, we suggest not installing them horizontally, but if you do, the spacing between posts in that case should be approximately 0.7 m. Slats are joined along their length on a post using a connecting element; do not push the slats all the way into this element, but leave a gap of 2–3 mm from the wall so that the slat has room to expand. During installation, you can use our U-profile, which is screwed onto the posts and into which the profiles are inserted without additional screwing. The spacing between slats in the U-profile is set using a spacer, which is also available in our product range.
Vertical installation of slats: The spacing between posts should be up to 2 m.
Maintenance Instructions
Seasonal cleaning is recommended to prevent overgrowth of weeds and grass. Clean with a normal cloth and, if necessary, with common household cleaners; a medium-pressure water jet can also be used. Cleaning with various solvents is not recommended.
Warranty Statement
We provide a 10-year warranty on the color and functional durability of white PVC slats. Although the material is UV-stabilized and of high quality, with darker-colored slats we cannot guarantee full color stability due to the effects of UV rays. Your fence will, despite the lightening effect, retain its mechanical strength and functionality. Samples of lightened slats are available in our showroom and can be viewed by the customer upon request. The lightening effect is not necessarily uniform – it may also appear as a spot or a line.
The manufacturer does not honour the warranty in the following cases:
- if the fence is damaged due to mechanical impacts;
- if the fence is exposed to various solvents, acids, or corrosive substances;
- if the defect is the result of force majeure (earthquake, storm, lightning strike, hail, glaze ice, vandalism, etc.);
- if the fence has deformed due to being subjected to heavy loads.
Delivery Time and Payment Method
The delivery timeframe and payment method are determined at the time of order and are only valid if confirmed in writing by the provider. Each order is custom-made. By confirming the order, the customer accepts that any delays caused by circumstances of force majeure (e.g. extreme weather events, extraordinary circumstances), difficulties in material supply, machine breakdowns, or unforeseen employee absences do not constitute a breach of the provider’s contractual obligations. In such cases, the customer is not entitled to compensation for damages. Payment of a 100% advance is to be made to the provider’s bank account as stated in the offer. The delivery period begins only from the day the final offer is confirmed by the customer and the agreed advance payment is received, unless otherwise agreed between the parties. If the customer withdraws from the order after confirming the offer, the advance payment is not refunded; the advance is refunded exclusively if, at the time of withdrawal, the material has not yet been prepared or produced. The buyer, as a consumer, has no right to withdraw from the contract when the subject of the order is custom-made goods, as stipulated by Article 43.č of the Consumer Protection Act (ZVPot).
